Ancient Civilizations (Period 2)

Course Description

Class Goals:

Our goals in Ancient Civilizations will include exploring the world through various human and land developments, from the earliest known human to the developments of the first communities.  This will be accomplished through reading, writing essays, projects, cooperative group work, quizzes, and tests.  We will also explore and enhance basic skills (i.e. note taking, study methods, public speaking skills etc.) that will aid students in succeeding here at Audubon and throughout their academic career.

 

Course Curriculum:

Our focus of study will be guided by the 6th grade California Social Studies Standards.  We will study the different topics/standards list below, along with other current and historical holiday events:

1.       Geography

2.       Early Humans and Civilizations                                                       (Standard 6.1)

3.       Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia                                                     (Standard 6.2)

4.      Ancient Hebrews                                                                            (Standard 6.3)

5.      Ancient Greece                                                                                  (Standard 6.4)

6.       Ancient India                                                                                 (Standard 6.5)

7.      Ancient China                                                                                    (Standard 6.6)

8.      Ancient Rome                                                                                    (Standard 6.7)

 

General Standard:

In order to master the material and concepts in the class, students must fully participate in class activities.  This includes, but not limited to students utilizing:

 

Ÿ  Appropriate listening and note-taking skills

Ÿ  Quiet reflection in class and home on the quality of their work

Ÿ  The full class period by having their book and materials out and working

Ÿ  Proper organization and maintenance of their history materials

Ÿ  Attending class with all materials and supplies daily
